Many of IBM's early protocols are still in place in many systems. This is because they work and are adaptable. These protocols have with stood the tests of time. But, when companies upgrade hardware, using terminal emulation software is a saving grace to their system by giving them the option to upgrade hardware while still implementing the same software.
