I’ve had a question that’s been bothering me for a few days… What is the benefit of using an E61 group on a single or double boiler espresso machine? Wouldn’t it be better to use a saturated group with a heating element similar to a BDB but with a better finish that would look fine exposed? If the desire is to stick with the E61 design, maybe a boiler could be cast that bolts directly to the group, thus removing the wait time for the thermosyphon to heat up the group head. It seems like a compromise is made by using the E61 on SB or DB machines in that the boiler would still need to be hotter than the group for the thermosyphon to properly cycle and heat the group in a reasonable amount of time.
I haven’t used my Francis Francis X5 in two years. I recently got it out and every time I try to make espresso, the pod bursts.
I’ve got the opportunity of buying a Mazzer Super Jolly that’s only been used to test it works OK. It’s a guy who works for a coffee distribution company and he won it in a barista competition.
